Open-Lab Style Class, 3 week Session

An Open-Lab Style class means you choose your project, bring  your pattern and supplies, and learn to Sew-it-All!  

Beginners and advanced students welcome in these classes, as everyone works on their own with guidance from Alicia.  Come learn to sew or improve your skills in these hands-on classes. Make a project you’ll be proud of and take the guess-work out of sewing. You will also learn how to navigate pattern instructions. Students will learn machine basics, pattern reading, and basic sewing and finishing techniques. Enjoy a small class size and work at your own pace with personalized instruction. Machines are provided if you don’t have one.

Bring all project supllies, pattern,  and basic sewing kit with pins, scissors, thread etc. to the first class meeting.  See the Supplies & Suggestions page for project ideas.

Hip to Hem

It is hip to hem your own jeans and pants!  This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn the hemming techniques and then actually hem your pants.

Class will begin with a demonstration of the Original Hem for jeans and a standard hem for casual pants. Following the demonstration, work time will begin with guidance from Alicia.  You will be trying on your pants to mark hem lenghts.

Bring the following supplies to class:

• Jeans and pants to hem (bring several)
• Sewing kit basics – scissors, pins, tape measure
• Your sewing machine if you have one ( machines available in class too)
• Thread that matches your pants

Get to Know Your Machine, Small Group Class

Whether you just bought a new machine or dusted off an old one, this is the perfect class to introduce you to your machine and all its functions!  Alicia will show you how to thread the machine and bobbin, how to use the features such as stitch patterns and buttonholes.  Basic stiching steps will be covered as well.  *Class is open to anyone 12 and over.

BRING THE FOLLOWING TO CLASS

• sewing machine and all the accessories it came with and the cords and foot control
• instruction manual
• 1 spool of thread
• scissors
•  

This class is highly recommended as your first step to successful sewing.

Summer Sewing Camp for All

Camp at the Sew-it-All Studio returns for Summer 2012!  

Imagine what you will learn in 4 days of sewing and what you can accomplish sewing for a week. 

Camp is a 4-day intensive course at the Studio. The class covers machine operation, pattern reading and project completion.   Students select their own pattern and bring all necessary supplies for the week.   Please see the Supplies and Suggestions page for more information or if you are a ccmplete beginner who needs some guidance.

Bring your pattern, fabric, and supplies to the first class meeting. 

• Camp is open to anyone age 12 and up
• Complete beginners are always welome at the Studio
•  Alicia recommends you bring a commerical pattern for the week of camp.  
• Custom sewing projects are most suitable for private lessons.

Open Studio Sewing at Sew-it-All

This is a one-session class at the Studio inteneded as a worknight for you.  Open studio is an opportunity  to get the help and advice you need when you are working your projects. Alicia moves around the room so  each student will have one-on-one help with their projects .  Bring all your project supplies and enjoy a great time with other Sew-it-All students at the Studio!  

** Please note, this is not the right class for you if you are a complete beginner*  The 3-Week Open Lab Style class is geared toward beginners and continuing students.

Pair of Pillows

You can change the look of a room by simply updating you throw pillows.  Each student  will make a pair of designer-style pillows for your home in just one class! Students will learn to apply a trim of piping around the edges of an envelope-style pillow, creating a very custom look.

Class will begin with a brief introduction to the sewing machine,  followed by a project and technique demonstration. 2 Pillows will be completed in class.

Bring the following supplies to class:

• 2 16” pillow forms
• 3/4 yards of fabric per pillow
• 4 yards of pre-made piping (2 yards per pillow)
• Thread
• Sewing Kit basics if you have them – scissors, pins, thread, etc. 

Sunday Sew-All-Day

Enjoy this Sunday Sew-All -Day and get some good work done!  7 hours of uninterrupted sewing.  This workshop is intended as a guided work time and is not the right class for you if you are a complete beginner.

Make sure you bring all your sewing projects and supplies to class.  This workshop is an extended workday with guidance from Alicia. Make it a day for yourself as you sew and enjoy the company of other Sew-it-All Students!   Bring a  lunch or snacks or take a lunch break.  Alicia will provide beverages.

* Please note, class is set for 9am - 4pm, if you'd like to arrive later, that is great too.

Survival Sewing for Men & Women

The best Hand Sewing Class ever!

Lost buttons? Hems falling? Rips in your clothing? This workshop will teach you the basics of hand sewing and all you need to help your clothing survive! You’ll learn the stitches and tricks necessary to make your own repairs and save money. This will be a life-changing class for you!

Bring the following supplies to class:

• All your clothing that needs mending
• Sewing kit basics– scissors, hand sewing needles,  pins, thread, etc 

Recycle and Re-Design a Garment

Ever wonder what to do with those clothes that don’t fit well, are partially worn out but you love them, or are just not right for you? In this studio class we’ll take those garments and re-design them into something new and original. Your imagination is your only limitation.

Bring the following supplies to class:

• Garments to recycle
• Any fabric, trim, or notions you want to use
• Sewing Kit basics if you have them – scissors, pins, thread, etc. 

Seams Great – Finishing Techniques

In this class you'll learn how to finish seams in order to make the inside of your garment look finished and professional. Students will practice making samples of a variety of seam finishes with guidance from Alicia. Information about when to use certain seams will be presented and discussed as samples are made in class.

Bring the following supplies to class:

• 1/2 yard stable woven fabric (like broad cloth)
• Single fold bias tape
• Sewing kit basics if you have them – scissors, pins, thread, etc  

Zip it up!

Gain confidence in using professional tips and techniques for any type of zipper for use in home decorating projects, garments and accessories. You will learn step-by-step, hands on methods to sew in lapped, centered, separating and invisible zippers. After this class, you will never avoid sewing in a zipper again!

Bring the following supplies to class:

• 1/2 yard of stable woven fabric (like broad cloth)
• one invisible zipper
• one separating zipper – also called a sport zipper
• two all-purpose zippers

* Note - Any color and length zipper will do as these are just samples you are sewing. 

Knit Know-How

Students will be educated on knits and their unique qualities, how to handle stretchy fabrics, and what needles and stitches work best. Stabilizing and seaming techniques will be demonstrated and practiced. Products and techniques that make sewing on knits easier will be introduced. All fabric supplies are provided for this workshop. You will leave with all the skills and practice you need to know-how to sew with knits confidently!

• Sewing Kit basics if you have them – scissors, pins, thread, etc. 

Sewing Get Away

Gather your friends and visit San Francisco for a Sew-it-All Get Away! This would make a fantastic girls weekend, a birthday celebration, bridal shower, or any other special event. Participants need not have sewing experience, Alicia is great with total beginners.

The get-away will consist of sewing with Alicia during the days, staying in a hotel in the beautiful San Francisco Marina Area. You will having access to the studio in the evenings if you want to stay up and work all night!

Contact Alicia for dates and costs, as things will vary depending on availability. Alicia has a flexible and forever changing schedule and will make this get away work for you! 

Sewing Parties

Gather your friends and contact Alicia to schedule your own sewing party or fashion workshop. This is a great idea for birthdays, bridal and baby showers. Alicia will work with you to recommend and select projects, gather supplies and provide sewing machines and equipment for the party.
